Stoll and Wachall

Control your body, video installation

The same video runs in synchronization on the two monitors. To the ever-repeated techno-beat of the refrain, Control Your Body, Let the Beat Control Your Body-Com'on dance with me, a female figure in a black sequined uniform begins to move the black pom-poms in an increasingly rhythmic and hypnotic fashion. She is a true pop-idol, a Venus of Willendorf, earth-goddess of the disco. Her pom-poms, which are intended for cheering on teams at american stadiums, are brandished at us, to coach us, to hypnotize. She indoctrinates us ever again: control yourself; let yourself be controlled.

Excerpt of a text by Frank Thinnes.
